E&J Doggie Daycare
E&J Doggie Daycare
A visual approach to the way we use and view doggy daycare services.
Demo the App: E&J Doggie Daycare Web App - Designed with Adobe XD
Overview
Background
E&J Doggie Daycare started as a personal interest in the doggie daycare process. My wife and I had tested several of the options over the years with our dogs, and we notices glaring flaws in their process.
I took this information and built on it with interview from friends and family about their experiences or inexperience with doggie daycare applications and websites.
The Problem
Scheduling appointments and monitoring dogs was not an available option to do from a website.

The Goal
Provide a responsive web application that made the process of scheduling and monitoring my dogs fast and easy.
Defining the Problem
User Research
I started the evaluation process with interviewing friends and family learning about their experiences with doggie daycare.
Many users struggled with the scheduling process and wanted a way to watch their dog during the day to make sure that it was getting the proper treatment and care.
Key Insights
Doggie daycare websites did not have easy enough scheduling process.
There is no way to monitor my dog during the day and check in on them without calling.
Prices on websites are sometimes not shown at all.
Mapping it out
When I was mapping out the design it was based on several competing applications. I focused on the features that they did not well, and wanted to make those the featured parts of my application. I wanted to make all of the features appear on the home screen and are very easy to do. Creating an experience that was a one stop shop for all of your doggie daycare needs.
Building wireframes
Prioritization
Design a way for customers to create recurring appointments.
Create a system to follow up with an employee during the day to check on my dog.
Show an about us page to let customers know what our mission is.
Have a rewards system for customers who have pets stay repeatedly.
Accessibility and Responsive considerations.
Current Accessibility Features
Colors were chosen based on WebAIM standards, and changed several times to match the standards.
Buttons were created by using components and were consistent throughout the application.
A mobile view of the application was created to demonstrate how the app would look as a part of the responsive design.
Conclusion and Takeaways
Lessons Learned
Building an app that can schedule, show video, and create several profiles took a significant amount of time to mock up and prototype. I really enjoyed the process and feel as though I learned a lot from a perspective of why projects can cost so much to change if they are far into the process.
This was my first full project in Adobe XD and I really learned a lot while working with it and the differences from Figma. I look forward to working with this platform in the future and I am really excited to find out more of what it can do.
Moving Forward with E&J
The goal for this project was to come up with a solution to the problem I saw with many doggie daycares in my area. They lacked the ability for an easy process with scheduling and no ability to check in on your pet. I would love to put this design out to several of the doggie daycares in my area to see if any of them would like to use it.
However, with the features included now the video section of this application would be a major overhaul and probably be very costly to implement right away. Still I believe and my users believe this would vastly improve a doggie daycares business model.
